I'm considering upgrading my Ryzen 7 3700X and GeForce RTX 2070 Super to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and Radeon RX 9070 XT with 16GB of VRAM. I play a mix of games, from lighter titles like Stardew Valley to CPU-heavy builders such as Dyson Sphere Program, along with demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077. I'd also like to buy a 4K monitor. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade, and is the RX 9070 XT a good match for 4K gaming?

That would be a substantial upgrade on both the CPU and GPU sides, especially if you want to keep your current AM4 motherboard and memory. The 5800X3D is excellent for gaming and simulation-style titles, while the 9070 XT should handle 4K well with sensible settings and upscaling. Just don’t expect every modern, demanding game to run at maximum settings and high refresh rates at native 4K.
For the most demanding games, native 4K at high settings may be closer to 60 FPS, and ray tracing can reduce that further. FSR Quality or Balanced can make 4K much more practical, although aggressive performance modes may look worse than a good native 1440p image. If you want consistently high frame rates, 1440p is the safer monitor choice; if you value sharpness and mostly play at 60–90 FPS, 4K is reasonable.
I’m using a 9070 XT with a 5700X3D and it’s a very good combination for factory builders and newer AAA games. Dyson Sphere Program and similar games can still become CPU-limited in huge late-game saves, so the 5800X3D should help a lot. The upgrade is worthwhile, but keep in mind the 5800X3D is effectively the end of the AM4 upgrade path.
The 9070 XT is a particularly strong fit for high-refresh 1440p or ultrawide 1440p. It can absolutely play at 4K, but demanding games may land around 60–90 FPS depending on settings, ray tracing, and whether you use FSR. For a 4K display, a 60–144Hz monitor with good upscaling support would make more sense than buying specifically for maximum native 4K performance.
With FSR Quality or Balanced, the card can still reach roughly 60–90 FPS at high or ultra settings in many games, even with some ray tracing enabled. Performance depends heavily on the particular title, though.
