The camera indicator light on my MacBook stayed illuminated even after I closed my browsers and fully shut down the computer using the power menu. I also removed camera permissions in Settings, but the light remained on—even during a software update with the Apple logo and progress bar visible. Is this normal, and what steps can force the camera and its indicator to switch off?

If the camera light is still on after a normal shutdown, try holding the Touch ID/power button until the Mac turns completely off, then start it again. It may be a temporary system or camera-process glitch. In this case, installing the pending macOS update and restarting resolved the issue—the light eventually went out.
That worked eventually. The light finally turned off after the update finished and I restarted the MacBook again.
