The camera indicator light on my MacBook stayed on after I closed my browsers and fully shut down the computer using the power menu. I also removed camera permissions from Settings, but the light remained lit—even while a software update was installing. After restarting the MacBook once the update finished, the light finally turned off. Is this a known software issue, and what should I try if it happens again?

If the camera indicator remains on after what appears to be a shutdown, the system may be stuck in a software or firmware state rather than the camera actually being used. A forced restart or completing the pending macOS update can clear it. Since the light went away after updating and restarting, this was probably a temporary system glitch.
That seems to be what happened. The light finally turned off after the update completed and I restarted the MacBook again.
