Need Advice on Repairing or Replacing My Old PC

I've had this PC for around 5 years, and it's had a rough journey through at least three house moves. It has a cheap, broken motherboard, a budget case, a Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, and 32GB of mismatched DDR4 RAM. The storage setup includes an M.2 SSD for Windows, a SATA SSD filled with most of my games, and a 15-year-old 7200 RPM hard drive that surprisingly still works. Not to mention, it's currently sporting a 4060 GPU, having upgraded from a 1660 and then an RX 480 8GB before that. The last time I had a technician look at it, they mentioned the motherboard is on its last legs, possibly due to standoffs. I feel out of my depth here, as I struggle with basic tasks like installing a stock cooler. Should I buy a new prebuilt PC and transfer the 4060, or should I just replace the motherboard and the case and keep the rest? This PC was a prebuilt unit I got about 10 years ago and has served me well, so now I'm a bit torn on what to do. Any suggestions would be great!

Standoffs shouldn’t be the issue at all. If the motherboard failed, it could be due to something else. Just keep an eye on the system and replace the case when you can, especially since it’s missing a side panel already.

The only thing I remember from the tech place is that they said the motherboard would eventually die. And honestly, I need a new case anyway.

If you decide to replace the motherboard, go for a B550 model like the MSI Mortar or Tomahawk. They’re very reliable and will support your Ryzen 5 perfectly well.

Does that fit my Ryzen 5?

If the PC is still running, you might just want to keep using it until it really breaks. But if you’re worried about the motherboard failing, getting a new one might be a good idea. You could also look into replacing the case, since prebuilt ones can be pretty flimsy.

Fair point! I guess I’m just getting a little paranoid about it, haha.
