Why Am I Getting Access Denied on Sparknotes?

I've run into a weird issue where I'm completely blocked from accessing Sparknotes on all my devices. Every time I try to visit the site, I get an 'Access Denied' message with a reference number. I'm worried that they might have blocked my IP address. I just started a free trial, and if I can't access the site, I won't be able to cancel it in time and might end up being charged. Can anyone explain what might be going on or what I can do to resolve this?

This seems to be an issue on Sparknotes' end, possibly tied to their use of Akamai tools for security. With the reference number provided, someone from their support can look into which rule triggered the block. Unfortunately, it's tough to identify the exact issue without more info from their side.

It sounds like you might have accidentally triggered the website's security measures, which can happen for all sorts of reasons—like clicking back too many times! Usually, these IP blocks are temporary. One workaround is to use your mobile data instead of Wi-Fi to cancel your trial. If you restart your modem or router, you might get a new IP address, too. Some ISPs use something called CGNAT, where multiple customers share the same IP, which can complicate things if someone else got banned.

That’s really interesting, thanks for explaining! I ended up trying a free VPN and it worked like a charm!

Are you using a VPN? That might be a factor in why you’re getting blocked. If you’re not, using one could help you bypass the issue.

No, I’m not using one right now, but I might give it a shot!

You should definitely try using a VPN. They can sometimes help with access issues like this.

Are there any reliable free VPNs you recommend?

Make sure to screenshot the error message. If they end up charging you despite this issue, you could file a chargeback with your bank since they're making it hard for you to unsubscribe.
