I have a Legion Pro 7 with an RTX 5080, Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, and a 240 Hz OLED display. While gaming, a small band of pink static occasionally appears along the top of the laptop screen. It has happened in several games, including Cyberpunk 2077, but it does not appear on an external monitor connected to the laptop. The issue occurs with G-Sync enabled or disabled and still happens when the display is locked to 60 Hz. I have also disabled adaptive frame rate settings and installed the latest NVIDIA updates. The laptop's OLED burn-in prevention features are enabled. Could this indicate a failing display or GPU? My return window ends today, so I need to decide whether it is safer to return the laptop.

Try capturing the problem with Windows Snipping Tool or a screen recording while it happens. If the pink bar appears in the capture, the issue may be related to the GPU or rendering. If it only appears when looking directly at the laptop panel and is missing from the capture, that points more toward the OLED panel, display cable, or display hardware. Since it happens across multiple games and only on the built-in screen, documenting it and returning or exchanging the laptop may be the safest option before the deadline.
I’ll try to capture it and compare the result. Since the return period is almost over, I’m leaning toward exchanging it rather than risking a panel problem later.
