RTX 5070 Ti: Should I Choose the ASUS Prime or PNY XLR8 Epic-X RGB?

I'm finishing a gaming PC build in a Lian Li LANCOOL 216 and am deciding between the ASUS Prime OC and the PNY XLR8 Gaming Epic-X RGB versions of the RTX 5070 Ti. Based on published testing and the specifications, the PNY appears to have a larger, more substantial cooler, which should theoretically mean lower temperatures and quieter operation. I've also seen several reports of coil whine with ASUS Prime cards, while PNY seems to have fewer complaints, although coil whine can vary from one unit to another. Is the PNY actually cooler or quieter in real-world gaming? Has anyone experienced coil whine with either model? Is PNY the better choice, or does the ASUS Prime offer advantages that I'm overlooking? I'm also curious whether undervolting and a custom fan curve make the differences between these cards largely irrelevant.

One concern with some less expensive card models is the quality and longevity of the thermal paste. The cooler may be excellent initially, but paste that migrates or pumps out over time can hurt temperatures later. That said, the ASUS Prime is also a decent choice, and I’d personally take it unless the PNY were available at roughly the same price.

The PNY reviewed in some testing does perform very quietly, but check the exact model because the RGB version may not use the same cooler as the Plus variant. Coil whine is mostly luck and can depend on the power draw and the rest of the system. Both cards should have a similar warranty, so if the prices are close I’d lean toward PNY, but I wouldn’t pay much extra for it. If the ASUS is substantially cheaper, it still looks like a perfectly reasonable option.

I have an ASUS Prime and it’s essentially silent during gaming, with no coil whine on my particular card. It’s hard to imagine needing something quieter for a normal build. Coil whine reports aren’t a guarantee either way, so I’d choose whichever is cheaper and fits your aesthetic better.

A larger heatsink isn’t necessarily worth paying extra for, especially since modern GPUs often ship with overly aggressive fan curves and more voltage than they need. A custom fan curve and a mild undervolt can reduce both temperatures and noise on either model. I’d focus on price, warranty, and return policy rather than expecting a dramatic performance difference.
