I’d choose the 9070 GRE. Paying roughly 14% more for about 20–30% more performance is a good trade, especially for a 1440p 144Hz display. You can always reduce texture quality if a future game exceeds 12GB, while you can’t easily make up for a large performance gap.

The additional 4GB shouldn’t automatically outweigh the performance difference. VRAM requirements vary by game, and 12GB may remain adequate for a while because current consoles constrain how much memory developers can reasonably target. I’d get the GRE and lower textures from Ultra to High if necessary in a future title.

There is a reasonable argument for the 16GB card if you plan to keep it for many years. Some newer games already approach or exceed 12GB at 1440p with maximum textures, and running out of VRAM can cause stutters rather than just lower average FPS. Still, 12GB is likely fine for the near term, especially if you’re willing to use High instead of Ultra textures. The GRE’s extra performance makes it the stronger overall choice, while the 9060 XT offers more peace of mind about VRAM.

The RX 9070 GRE is probably the better value if you can afford the extra $70. Around 30% more performance is a meaningful upgrade, and 12GB should be sufficient for 1440p in most games right now. The 9060 XT’s extra VRAM is useful, but it may not matter much if the GPU itself lacks the performance to run demanding settings smoothly.

Check for discounts before deciding. If you can find the 9070 GRE close to $500, it becomes an easy recommendation. At $570, it’s still the faster and generally better-value option, but the 9060 XT makes more sense if the budget is a strict limit or you prioritize keeping maximum texture settings for as long as possible.
