I'm upgrading my PC and choosing between a Ryzen 5 7600X for about $185 and a Ryzen 5 7500X3D for around $260. I mainly play Valorant, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and PUBG at 1080p, and I also use the PC for watching movies and YouTube. I plan to add a dedicated graphics card, probably a Radeon 9060 XT, in the next month or two. Which processor would be the better choice, especially considering the extra cost of DDR5 and the need for a budget-friendly motherboard?

For the motherboard, look at an affordable B650 or B650M model with decent VRM cooling, two M.2 slots, and the features you actually need. There’s no need to buy an expensive board for either processor. Just make sure the BIOS supports the 7500X3D, since newer CPUs may require a BIOS update. Also, try to go with 32GB of DDR5 if possible, since it’s a better fit for a modern gaming build than 16GB.
Both CPUs will run those games well, and the 7600X is already a very capable option. The 7500X3D should deliver higher FPS and better 1% lows, but the difference depends on your graphics card and monitor refresh rate. If your budget is tight, choosing the 7600X and putting the savings toward the GPU, 32GB of RAM, or a better monitor may give you a more balanced upgrade.

At 1080p with a dedicated graphics card, the higher lows may be noticeable, so the extra $75 can be worthwhile if it doesn’t force you to cut back on the rest of the build.
