My gaming PC is about seven years old and still uses a GTX 1050 Ti, so I'm considering a major upgrade. I'm looking at a new system with an RTX 5070, DDR5 memory, and enough performance to play newer games at 1440p on high settings for several years. The problem is that DDR5 prices are unusually high right now. I considered upgrading last year, and I'm worried that waiting longer could mean paying even more if memory prices continue rising. I'm not interested in choosing DDR4 just to reduce the cost, since I want a modern platform with better long-term upgrade potential. My rough budget used to be around €1,400, though current prices may push that closer to €1,700–€1,800. Should I buy the parts now or wait for prices to improve?

The main thing is to check the complete build against your real budget before buying. A 32GB DDR5 kit, a 2TB SSD, and a current CPU can push the total well above the original €1,400 target, especially with today’s memory and storage prices. If the higher total is still comfortable, buy now; if it would cause financial stress, wait or reduce the GPU tier rather than overspending just because of fear of future price increases.
If you need the system now, I’d go ahead and build it. There’s no guarantee DDR5 prices will drop soon, and waiting specifically for cheaper memory could leave you paying even more. Moving from a 1050 Ti to an RTX 5070 would be a huge jump, especially for 1440p gaming. Since you want to keep the machine for years, DDR5 makes more sense than buying into an older DDR4 platform just to save some money today.
I’d also compare the graphics cards before committing to the RTX 5070. Depending on local pricing and game preferences, a Radeon RX 9070 XT may offer more performance for the money. Either way, pairing a current-generation GPU with DDR5 is the sensible choice for a long-lived 1440p build.
Build now if your budget can handle it. Several people are seeing substantial increases in both memory and SSD prices, and current market conditions don’t suggest a quick return to the unusually cheap prices from a few years ago.
