I'm planning a completely new gaming PC for GTA VI, but I'm unsure whether to build it now or wait. My current system has an RTX 2080 Super from 2019. I've been considering an RTX 5080, but prices have climbed from around $1,500 to roughly $1,900. Since there's still no confirmed PC release date or known system requirements for GTA VI, would it make more sense to buy now, wait for sales, or hold off for newer hardware?

For 1440p gaming, the RTX 5080 may not offer the best value. A Radeon RX 9070 XT can provide similar overall performance for considerably less, depending on the games and features you care about. Compare current prices and benchmarks instead of locking yourself into one model.
Since your existing PC is from 2019, a meaningful upgrade would probably involve more than replacing the graphics card. A new build with a current CPU, enough memory, a suitable power supply, and a modern platform would make more sense. Still, wait for confirmed GTA VI requirements before choosing parts specifically for it.
There’s no confirmed PC release date for GTA VI, and it may arrive a year or two after the console version. By then, newer graphics cards could be available, so building specifically for that game right now is hard to justify. If you need a PC for other games or daily use, build based on your current needs; otherwise, waiting is reasonable.
That’s what I’m debating. I already plan to play it on PS5 first, but I’d like to have a PC version later too.
If you decide to buy now, don’t assume prices will drop. GPU and RAM prices have been unpredictable, and a good deal today could be better than paying more later. It’s worth checking major retailers, local listings, and seasonal sales, but don’t overpay for a 5080 just because of one future game.
Black Friday or another major sale could be worth waiting for, especially if you aren’t in a hurry.
I’ll definitely look into the 9070 XT. I was mostly focused on the 5080 because I wanted something that would last.
