My old Dell desktop, which I rescued from a high school tech lab cleanout back in 2012, finally stopped working. I'm trying to decide whether to buy a prebuilt PC or attempt a build myself. I'm not very knowledgeable about computer hardware, and I'd like something with performance roughly comparable to a PS5, so a store-bought system might be the safer option. At the same time, I'd enjoy having a project to work on and learning how to build a PC. I already have a case from a VTuber collaboration that I bought on impulse and have been keeping on the floor with an LED bulb inside, so that has me tempted to build around it. What would be the best approach for someone inexperienced?

You might be able to get the best of both options by checking for local bundle deals that include the main components and then assembling the system yourself. Retailers such as Micro Center sometimes offer excellent motherboard-and-CPU bundles, and they also sell reasonably priced prebuilts and open-box systems. If there isn’t one nearby, warehouse stores can occasionally have good prebuilt deals too.
There’s a Costco near me, and I know someone with a membership, so I’ll take a look at what they have.
