I'm planning a new mid-to-high-end gaming PC with a budget of around £2,000. I could build it now, but I'm wondering whether it would be smarter to wait until next year in the hope that RAM becomes cheaper. Is there any reason to expect prices to fall, or are memory prices more likely to keep rising for the foreseeable future?

If you need the PC now, I’d probably buy it rather than waiting for an uncertain price drop. There doesn’t seem to be a clear sign that RAM prices are about to fall, and shortages or supply changes could push them higher instead.
Waiting specifically for cheaper RAM is a gamble. Prices may eventually ease when the next memory generation becomes widespread, but that could take a while. If you’re building on the current platform, just choose a sensible-capacity kit and watch for sales.
The rest of the build matters too. Component prices can change independently, so it may be better to buy when the parts you want are reasonably priced instead of delaying the entire PC for one component. You can also start with a reasonable amount of RAM and add another matching kit later if necessary.
