Should I buy RAM now or wait a couple of months?

I'm in the UK and building my first PC with help from a friend who knows more about hardware than I do. He thinks I should wait one or two months before buying RAM because prices may drop significantly. Does that seem likely, or could prices stay high or even increase?

The best approach is to choose the memory that fits your planned CPU and motherboard, then buy when it fits your budget. Don’t delay the whole build solely because someone expects a price drop. If you can wait indefinitely, you might eventually find a better deal, but there’s no dependable one- or two-month window.

The demand for memory from AI and data centers is putting pressure on consumer RAM supply, especially DDR5. That situation could change if production increases or demand suddenly drops, but there’s no solid reason to expect that within two months. Treat your friend’s prediction as speculation, not a guarantee.

If you’re trying to save money, compare several UK retailers and consider reputable used options from places with a return policy or warranty. Used RAM usually has no moving parts and can be perfectly reliable, but test it properly. Also remember that seasonal sales may offer discounts without changing the broader price trend.

Nobody can reliably predict RAM prices that far ahead. A major drop within one or two months seems unlikely, and current supply pressures could just as easily push prices higher. If you need the PC soon and can afford the RAM, buying now is safer than trying to time the market.

Even if prices eventually fall, it may take years rather than weeks for extra production to reach stores and bring retail prices down.
