I'm building a gaming PC around a Ryzen 5 9600X with 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and my total budget is about $1,500. The RX 9070 GRE costs around $600, while the standard RX 9070 is about $700. Buying the regular 9070 would use my entire budget, but I'm currently gaming on a 1080p monitor and plan to upgrade to a higher-resolution display soon. Would it make more sense to save the $100 with the 9070 GRE and put that money toward a monitor upgrade, or is the standard RX 9070 worth delaying the monitor purchase for?

Also check your power supply before deciding. The GRE generally has lower power spikes and can be a little easier to run on a quality 750W unit, while the standard 9070 may need more headroom depending on the model.
Don’t overlook the memory budget. If you only have one 16GB stick, adding a second matching stick for dual-channel performance may be more useful than spending every last dollar on the GPU. Ideally, try to move to 32GB eventually.
The standard RX 9070 is roughly 18% faster and offers more VRAM, so the extra $100 is fairly reasonable. Since you’re planning to move to 1440p, I’d buy the 9070 and postpone the monitor upgrade a little.
At 1080p, the 9070 GRE is already more than enough and would give you a better price balance. If the monitor upgrade is definitely happening soon, though, the regular 9070 will have more breathing room at 1440p.
