I'm currently using an RTX 4070 with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a 5120×1440 ultrawide monitor. I mostly play simulation games, with the occasional AAA title, and I'm satisfied as long as performance stays above roughly 60 FPS. I don't plan to switch to a standard 4K display, although this ultrawide resolution is fairly close to 4K in total pixels. Local pricing puts the RTX 5080 about $350–$500 above the RTX 5070 Ti. I also found an open-box RTX 5070 Ti for $1,060. Would either upgrade be worthwhile, or should I keep the RTX 4070 for now?

The RTX 5080 is the faster option, but the extra $350–$500 may not matter much if you only need 60 FPS. At this resolution, the RTX 5070 Ti should handle most games well with sensible settings, while the 5080 makes more sense if you want higher refresh rates, heavier ray tracing, or more headroom for future games.
For your target of around 60 FPS, the RTX 5070 Ti should be enough at 5120×1440. However, $1,060 is a very poor price for an open-box model. A similarly performing Radeon RX 9070 XT may offer substantially better value, depending on local pricing.
If the RTX 4070 is already meeting your performance goals and you aren’t running into VRAM limitations, I’d keep it. The RTX 5070 Ti is roughly a 40% upgrade in favorable situations, which probably isn’t worth spending several hundred dollars after selling your current card. Waiting for a future generation could provide a more meaningful improvement.
Before upgrading, check what frame rates and settings you’re currently getting with the RTX 4070. Since 5120×1440 has around 7.4 million pixels, it’s much more demanding than ordinary 1440p and fairly close to 4K. Still, if your existing card is already delivering the experience you want, there’s no urgent reason to replace it.
