I'm choosing between a 512GB Kingston KC3000 for $83 and a 1TB Kingston NV3 for $102. This will be my main drive for the operating system, applications, games, and personal files. The KC3000 has DRAM and TLC NAND, while the NV3 lacks DRAM and may use QLC NAND. Is the KC3000's better performance and endurance worth giving up half the storage, or would the larger NV3 be the better everyday choice?

TLC generally stores fewer bits per cell than QLC, so it usually offers better write endurance and more consistent performance during large or sustained transfers. That matters more for heavy workloads than for booting Windows or launching games. QLC is not automatically bad as a boot drive; it’s mainly a capacity-and-price compromise.
At those prices, I’d lean toward the 1TB NV3 unless you regularly copy huge files or do demanding workloads. You’re paying only $19 more for twice the capacity, which is a pretty good trade-off for an operating-system and storage drive. Just keep some free space available so performance doesn’t drop when the drive is nearly full.
The KC3000 is the stronger drive technically, thanks to its TLC NAND, DRAM cache, and generally better sustained performance and endurance. However, for normal home use, gaming, and office work, the NV3 should still feel perfectly responsive. Since this will be your only drive, the extra capacity may be more useful than the performance difference.
So the main reason to choose TLC is better endurance and sustained writes, rather than faster everyday boot times?
