I'm building a gaming PC in Bulgaria with an RX 6800 XT and will mainly play at 1440p. The Intel Core i5-14400F and Ryzen 7 5700X both cost about €150, but AM4 motherboards with the features I want are noticeably cheaper than LGA1700 options. I was leaning toward the i5 because I might upgrade to an i7 later, while I've also heard that AMD can be better for gaming. Which platform makes more sense for this build?

Since both CPUs cost about the same, compare the total platform price instead. If the AM4 motherboard is cheaper and already has all the features you need, the 5700X is a reasonable choice. Just remember that neither AM4 nor LGA1700 offers a particularly long upgrade path, so the cheaper motherboard may be the better investment.
AMD isn’t automatically better for gaming. The 14400F and 5700X trade places depending on the game, and at 1440p the difference is often small. Check benchmarks for the games you actually play. Also consider the Ryzen 5 5600X if it’s considerably cheaper, since it offers nearly the same gaming performance as the 5700X in many cases.
At 1440p, the RX 6800 XT will usually be the limiting factor, so the 5700X and 14400F should perform fairly similarly in most games. If you can find a Ryzen 7 5700X3D for close to €150, that would be the standout gaming choice and a great match for the GPU.
The 5700X3D is difficult to find at that price in Bulgaria. The 5800X3D is available, but around €300, so it doesn’t seem like good value for this build.
That’s what I was considering—the AM4 boards I found are cheaper, while both processors are priced around €150.
