I'm choosing between two similarly priced gaming PC builds. The first uses a Ryzen 5 7500F, Radeon RX 9070, 16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 in a single stick, and an Asus Prime B850M-K motherboard. The second uses a Ryzen 5 7500X3D, Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB, the same single 16GB DDR5 stick, and an Asus B850 MAX Gaming WiFi W board with four RAM slots. I currently play at 1080p, mostly esports games such as The Finals and Marvel Rivals, along with Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring. I plan to move to a high-refresh-rate 1440p monitor soon and won't upgrade the GPU for at least four years. I expect to add another 16GB stick in about five or six months, but I'm concerned that running single-channel memory initially could hurt high-FPS performance and 1% lows. Is the stronger GPU the better long-term choice, or would the 7500X3D make more sense for my games?

Go with the 7500F and RX 9070 for your planned 1440p high-refresh setup. A single DDR5 module is not ideal, but the lack of dual-channel bandwidth is generally less damaging than choosing a substantially weaker GPU for the next several years. Add a matching second 16GB stick as soon as practical. The platform should also leave room for a future CPU upgrade.
The motherboard should not be the deciding factor here. Pick the less expensive board that has the features and upgrade support you actually need, then put the savings toward the GPU or a second RAM stick. Also, four DDR5 slots do not automatically make future memory upgrades trouble-free; two matched sticks are usually easier to run at their rated speed than four modules.
For 1080p esports, the 7500X3D and RX 9060 XT combination is completely capable, and the extra cache can help in CPU-limited games. The 9060 XT 16GB is also strong enough for Cyberpunk and Elden Ring at 1080p. If you value very high frame rates immediately and won’t upgrade the GPU for years, this build is still reasonable, but the RX 9070 is the better long-term 1440p card.
I’d choose the 7500F with the RX 9070, especially since you’re moving to 1440p and want to keep the GPU for several years. One DDR5 stick will reduce memory bandwidth and may hurt minimum FPS, but the 7500F should still be perfectly usable until you add the second module. The faster graphics card will matter much more at 1440p.
That’s what I’m leaning toward, but I’m mainly worried about the temporary single-channel performance hit in esports games.
The 9060 XT is capable, but I’d hate to spend nearly the same amount and end up wishing I had bought the card that is around half again as fast.
