Should I choose the RX 9070 XT or RTX 4070 Ti Super for gaming?

I'm planning a GPU upgrade and I'm deciding between an RX 9070 XT for about $780 and an RTX 4070 Ti Super for roughly $900. Most of my use would be gaming at 1440p. From what I've read, the 9070 XT is generally faster in standard rasterized games, while the 4070 Ti Super has an advantage in ray tracing and path tracing. However, the ray-tracing difference seems relatively small in many games, and path tracing tends to reduce performance heavily at 1440p anyway. I don't really need CUDA, 3D modeling, or intensive video-production features, so is the Nvidia card worth paying more for, or would the 9070 XT be the better buy?

At those prices, the RX 9070 XT is the better value. It is typically around 10–15% faster in regular rasterized gaming, costs less, and gives you a new card with a fresh warranty. The two cards should provide a similar overall experience, but the 9070 XT makes more sense for a gaming-focused build.

Both are capable cards, and the 4070 Ti Super can deliver excellent ray-tracing performance. Still, $900 is a very high price for that model, particularly when a faster or similarly capable newer option is available for less. I’d only choose it if you strongly prefer Nvidia features or have software that depends on them.

I’ve owned a 4070 Ti Super since launch and it has been a great card, but if I were buying today for gaming, I’d choose the 9070 XT instead. The newer card’s performance, price, and support for newer upscaling features make it the more sensible purchase.

For occasional video editing or recording gameplay, the 9070 XT should generally be fine. Nvidia becomes more compelling when you rely on CUDA-based applications, heavy rendering, AI workloads, or specific creator tools. If your main priority is playing games and you don’t use those features, go with the 9070 XT.

The 9070 XT is the straightforward choice here. Its ray tracing is weaker in some titles, especially with demanding path tracing, but the gap is often modest and the performance loss from path tracing can be substantial on either card at 1440p. Saving the money and getting the newer card seems more worthwhile.

The RTX 4070 Ti Super mainly makes sense if you specifically need CUDA, Nvidia’s software ecosystem, or stronger support for workloads like 3D applications and some AI tools. For ordinary gaming, especially at 1440p, the ray-tracing advantage usually isn’t large enough to justify paying an extra $120.
