I'm deciding between an RX 9070 XT priced around $700–$750 and an RTX 5060 Ti costing roughly $600–$650. I originally thought the RX 9070 XT was the obvious choice, especially for gaming, but a coworker keeps insisting that NVIDIA's features and technology make the RTX 5060 Ti better. Is the 9070 XT the stronger option, or are there situations where the 5060 Ti makes more sense?

The main reasons to choose the RTX 5060 Ti would be needing CUDA, specific productivity or AI software, lower power consumption, or NVIDIA-only features that matter to your workload. If this is primarily a gaming PC, the 9070 XT is the clear choice.
The two cards should not really be compared as equal competitors. The RTX 5060 Ti is cheaper because it is a lower-tier card, while the RX 9070 XT performs closer to a higher-end NVIDIA model. Unless you specifically need NVIDIA software support, go with the 9070 XT for gaming.
For gaming, the RX 9070 XT is in a completely higher performance class. At those prices, the extra money is justified because it is generally much faster than the RTX 5060 Ti, especially at higher resolutions. NVIDIA’s features don’t make up for that large performance gap in normal gaming.
Exactly. The 5060 Ti can make sense for specialized workloads, but CUDA is the important distinction—not simply the fact that it carries an NVIDIA badge.
