My current prebuilt has 32GB of DDR4 memory, an RTX 3060, and a 300W power supply that appears to be integrated into the case. The system is difficult to upgrade because the motherboard and power supply aren't easily replaceable. I'm considering moving the components into a standard case with a separate motherboard and a properly sized PSU. Would it make more sense to reuse my DDR4 with an AM4 motherboard, or should I spend extra on DDR5 and a newer platform? I'm mainly concerned about the cost of replacing perfectly usable memory.

If you are building a completely new system and can comfortably afford it, DDR5 gives you access to newer CPU platforms and an easier future upgrade path. But it won’t make the RTX 3060 dramatically faster by itself, so there’s no urgent reason to replace working DDR4 solely for the sake of having DDR5.
Keeping the DDR4 makes sense if your goal is to spend as little as possible. A Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 system on AM4, paired with a quality replacement PSU, should be a substantial improvement over the restrictive prebuilt. A Ryzen 7 5700X or 5700X3D would be especially strong choices if they fit your budget, while a Ryzen 5 would work for a cheaper build.
I’d prioritize replacing the case, motherboard, and power supply before worrying about DDR5. Your 300W integrated PSU is the bigger concern, particularly with an RTX 3060. Reuse the GPU and RAM for now, then upgrade the platform or memory later when prices and your budget make it worthwhile.
You don’t upgrade to DDR5 just for the memory itself—you choose it because the CPU and motherboard platform require or benefit from it. Since you already have 32GB of DDR4, reusing it with an AM4 system can be a very cost-effective option, especially if DDR5 prices are high.
AM4 is no longer the newest platform, but it is still perfectly capable of handling a midrange graphics card like the RTX 3060. The money saved on memory could go toward a proper case, motherboard, and PSU.
Before buying parts, check the exact prebuilt model and its CPU and motherboard. A power supply being permanently soldered into the case would be unusual, so it’s worth confirming whether it is actually fixed in place or simply a proprietary, tight-fitting unit.
