I'm buying in Germany with a budget of about €500, though I could stretch to €600 if the extra money would make the upgrade last longer. My current system has a Ryzen 5 5600, RTX 3060 Ti, 16GB of DDR4-3200, and a B550 motherboard. I play at 1440p and 144Hz, have no interest in 4K, and don't need peripherals—this budget is only for the PC itself.
In newer games, the 3060 Ti's 8GB of VRAM seems to become a limitation before the CPU gets close to full usage, so a graphics card upgrade appears to offer the biggest immediate improvement. However, the AM4 platform is effectively at its endpoint: the second M.2 slot is only PCIe 3.0, DDR4 is the limit, and the remaining compatible CPUs would not be a huge jump from the Ryzen 5 5600.
Would I get more value from putting the money into a much faster GPU, or should I replace the CPU, motherboard, and RAM first? I'm concerned that spending everything on a graphics card could leave me wanting another upgrade in a year or two, while a platform change might barely improve gaming performance. If the GPU route makes more sense, what cards around €500–€600 offer enough VRAM to age better than another 8GB model? Also, would a decent 650W power supply be sufficient for the likely upgrades?

If you want the biggest improvement per euro, stay on AM4 for now and upgrade the GPU. A new platform paired with the 3060 Ti would not make much sense for 1440p gaming. You can consider a higher-end AM4 gaming CPU such as a 5700X3D later if a future GPU upgrade reveals a CPU limit, but it shouldn’t be the first move.
I’d also increase the memory to 32GB when possible. Some newer games are starting to make 16GB uncomfortable, although that upgrade alone won’t transform performance. A 32GB kit plus a faster 16GB-or-more GPU would leave the current AM4 system feeling much healthier.
The 3060 Ti is still workable at 1440p if you reduce ultra settings, but demanding games can expose its age and 8GB limit. I’ve seen similar behavior in titles such as Darktide and Space Marine 2. If the power supply is a reputable 650W unit, it may be fine for a moderate upgrade, but check the exact model and the new card’s recommended wattage before buying.
The GPU is the clear gaming bottleneck here. A platform swap would cost a lot and probably give you only a small improvement at 1440p, while a newer card with more VRAM would provide a much larger jump in frame rates and settings. The Ryzen 5 5600 should be perfectly usable with a substantially faster GPU, especially at 1440p.
An RX 9060 XT with 16GB is one option that can fit just under €500 in Germany. Selling the 3060 Ti could also increase the budget enough for something like an RX 9070 or 9070 XT, which would be a much more noticeable upgrade.
