Should I Upgrade My CPU or Focus on RAM and SSD?

Hey everyone! I've got a Ryzen 3 3300x paired with an Aorus 3090, 16 GB of 2666 MHz RAM, and I'm using a SATA SSD for storage. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700x to fix some major bottlenecking that's been hindering my gaming experience. I'm also looking at upgrading to 32 GB of 3200 MHz CL16 RAM and a solid M.2 SSD. I'm curious about two things: 1) Is the CPU upgrade a good move? Are there other AM4 CPUs that could work better for me? I'm intrigued by the idea of doubling the cores, but I'm open to alternatives like the x3d from a lower series. 2) With RAM and SSD prices being so high right now, should I grab them now or hold off? I'm not sure how significantly these upgrades would impact load times and overall performance, as I've noticed my boot and game loading times are on the slower side.

If you're looking to upgrade, the new 5800x3d is rumored to be coming out soon, and it's ideal for your needs. With x3d chips, you don't need super-fast RAM, so it might be worth it to wait for that. Maybe check the pricing between a 5800x3d plus an SSD or a 5800xt with the RAM upgrade. It really depends on what ends up being cheaper. The 5800x3d would shine in gaming, but the 5800xt with faster RAM could be just as effective at 1440p, so either choice would be solid depending on price!

If you're gaming at 1440p, the 5700x will help reduce the bottleneck you’re experiencing. Just keep in mind that even though upgrading RAM is great, it's a bit less impactful when there’s a significant CPU bottleneck. If prices for the x3d CPUs aren't too outrageous, I'd say go for one of those down the line since they'll offer a jump in performance!

I had a 3300x before, and honestly, the 5700x upgrade is worthwhile, but I'd suggest prioritizing the RAM first. Even with the 3300x, faster RAM can boost performance noticeably—think about a potential 10% gain in some games. The SSD upgrade is decent for loading times, but it's minor when it comes to overall gameplay performance. I'd skip the SSD upgrade right now with the current prices, for sure!

Honestly, you're not going to feel a noticeable difference with RAM speed upgrades right now, especially with current prices. Stick with 16 GB until you can afford more without breaking the bank. For CPUs, definitely look into the 5700x or 5800x—those are solid choices that will take good care of that 3090!
