I built this system in 2020 and am trying to decide whether to upgrade it gradually instead of replacing everything. I play shooters, indie games, and newer AAA titles, and lately the demanding games have made it harder to maintain high frame rates or use maximum settings.
My current setup is a Ryzen 5 5600X on an MSI B450 Tomahawk, 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory, an RTX 3060 Ti, a 1000W Super Flower Leadex power supply, and M.2 SSDs. I currently use two 1080p monitors: a 144Hz primary display and a 60Hz secondary display.
Would moving to a 27-inch 1440p high-refresh-rate monitor make sense with the RTX 3060 Ti, or would the GPU struggle too much in current AAA games? Should I upgrade the graphics card first, add a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and 32GB of RAM, or simply stay at 1080p and continue using this system for a while longer?

I’d start with the Ryzen 7 5700X3D. Your current system is still quite capable, and that processor is a major upgrade for gaming without requiring a platform change. I’d also move to 32GB of RAM when convenient. Then you can upgrade the GPU later when prices and availability make more sense.
The 3060 Ti is still a reasonable 1080p card and can also do 1440p if you use sensible settings or upscaling. If you mostly play CPU-limited shooters, upgrade the processor first. If the newer AAA games are what bother you most, upgrade the GPU first and treat the 1440p monitor as a companion purchase rather than buying the monitor alone.
The GPU is the part I’d prioritize if your main problem is newer AAA games. A 3060 Ti can handle 1440p with optimized settings, but a faster card would give you a much bigger improvement in image quality and frame rates. Your 1000W power supply is already more than enough for a substantial GPU upgrade, so you could keep the rest of the system for several more years.
A sensible final AM4 upgrade would be a 5700X3D, 32GB of DDR4-3200, and a current-generation GPU with at least 16GB of VRAM. Keep the existing motherboard, SSDs, and power supply, and add a decent dual-tower air cooler if your current cooler is basic. That gives the platform a strong upgrade without paying for a full DDR5 rebuild.
You don’t necessarily need to rush. A 1440p 144Hz or 165Hz monitor would be a worthwhile upgrade from 1080p, but you may need to lower settings in the most demanding games. I’d choose the monitor based on the experience you want, then upgrade the GPU when the 3060 Ti no longer delivers the frame rates you want.
