I'm currently using a PC with 16GB of RAM and found a good deal on a 32GB DDR5 kit. I've wanted to upgrade for a while since 32GB is becoming more common for modern gaming, multitasking, video editing, coding, and rendering with Manim. I also want a second monitor for productivity and everyday use, but I can only afford one purchase right now. Which upgrade would make more sense?

The answer depends a little on your current usage. If your system is regularly close to using all 16GB, upgrade the RAM immediately. If you still have plenty of free memory while gaming and editing, a second monitor could improve your workflow more. Based on the editing and rendering you mentioned, though, 32GB sounds like the more practical first purchase.
If it’s genuinely a good deal, I’d prioritize the RAM. Memory prices can fluctuate or rise quickly, whereas monitors often stay the same price or become cheaper over time. Just make sure the kit is compatible with your motherboard and CPU.
Be careful about simply adding another random 16GB stick to your existing RAM. With DDR5 especially, mixing unmatched modules can force lower speeds or cause instability when enabling the advertised memory profile. A properly matched 32GB kit is the safer choice.
Also confirm that your current platform actually supports DDR5. If the PC uses DDR4, moving to DDR5 may require a compatible motherboard and possibly a new CPU, so it may cost much more than just buying memory.
Get the 32GB of RAM first. The extra memory will help more with multitasking, video editing, and Manim rendering, while a second monitor is mainly a convenience and productivity upgrade. You can always add the monitor later.
That’s an important distinction. Buying a complete matched kit is better than combining two separate kits, even if they have the same capacity and advertised speed.
