I'm starting to save for a new PC and want a build that can handle modern games and streaming smoothly, ideally at the same time. My preferences are an Nvidia graphics card, an AMD processor, and 32GB of RAM, with a maximum budget of about $2,000. I'm in the United States and would probably play at 1080p or 1440p since my current monitors are 1080p. My existing system has a Ryzen 5 2600X, so I'm wondering how much of an upgrade I really need.

The ideal parts depend heavily on your target resolution and local pricing. Since you’re in the US and likely staying at 1080p or moving to 1440p, you don’t necessarily need an extremely expensive CPU. A current midrange Ryzen chip with 32GB of memory and the strongest Nvidia GPU you can fit within the budget should give you better overall gaming performance than overspending on the processor. Your old 2600X is several generations behind, so even a modern midrange AMD CPU would be a substantial improvement.
A Ryzen 5 9600X paired with an RTX 5070 Ti would be a strong starting point for gaming and streaming. The GPU should handle 1440p very well, and Nvidia’s hardware encoding is useful for streaming without putting too much work on the CPU. Depending on current prices, you could shift some of the budget toward the processor, but this pairing should be well balanced.
I was considering the RTX 5070 Ti, but the price is higher than I expected. I also looked at the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, though I’m not sure whether that would be excessive for this budget or a major upgrade from my Ryzen 5 2600X.
