I'm currently using a Core i7-10700K with an RTX 3080, and the system is around six years old. I'm ready to upgrade and probably won't replace the platform again for another six to ten years. I don't plan to overclock, but I want the highest gaming frame rates possible in Counter-Strike, DayZ, and War Dogs without lowering the settings excessively. I already have a reliable 1,000W Corsair power supply that I'd like to keep. I was considering a Core i9-14900K, but its power consumption, heat output, and reported degradation problems concern me. What CPU, motherboard, and memory combination would offer excellent gaming performance and long-term reliability, preferably with parts available in the United States?

For a new platform, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with a B850 motherboard is a strong choice for gaming. You’ll need DDR5 memory, ideally a 32GB kit around DDR5-6000, plus a capable air cooler such as a dual-tower Thermalright model. This gives you excellent game performance without the extreme power and heat of a 14900K, and the newer AM5 platform should provide a better upgrade path if you ever change your mind later.
The 9800X3D system would typically use a B850 board, 32GB of DDR5-6000, and a good tower cooler. Your existing 1,000W power supply should be more than sufficient, assuming it is in good condition and has the necessary GPU cables. Make sure to update the motherboard BIOS and use the manufacturer’s recommended settings rather than running unrestricted automatic voltage or power modes.
AMD platforms have also had isolated firmware-related CPU failures, so no platform is completely immune to launch issues. Those problems were addressed with later firmware, though, and current BIOS updates are still important for stability.
A 14700K with a DDR4 Z790 board can also be a reasonable value if reusing existing DDR4 memory is important. Intel’s 14th-generation issues were largely tied to firmware and power-management settings, and BIOS and microcode updates addressed much of the problem, but the AMD option is generally more attractive for a fresh gaming build.
