I recently bought a Radeon RX 7700 XT, but I was told that my current Core i5-9400F might bottleneck it. I'm using a motherboard with an LGA1151 socket and have 32GB of DDR4 memory. Is there a worthwhile CPU upgrade that fits my current motherboard, or would I be better off replacing the motherboard and possibly reusing my RAM?

If you decide to move to a newer platform, a Ryzen 7 5700X or Ryzen 5 5500X3D with a B550 motherboard could be a reasonable budget route, since your existing DDR4 memory could be reused. Just compare the total platform cost against newer CPU and motherboard options before buying.
There isn’t really a major CPU upgrade for that socket. A Core i9-9900 or 9900K would be somewhat faster, but it may not be worth paying much for an older chip. Try the 9400F with the new GPU first, especially if you play at 1440p or 4K. At 1080p with a high refresh-rate monitor, the CPU may hold you back more noticeably.
There’s no single CPU that is the perfect match for every graphics card. Different games and applications stress the CPU and GPU differently, so the best upgrade depends on what you play and whether you’re targeting high-refresh 1080p or higher-resolution gaming.
