I'm getting back into PC gaming and my system has started feeling slow. It was built around 2017 with a Ryzen 5 2600, an RTX 3070 Ti, and 16 GB of 3200 MHz RAM. In games, my CPU often reaches 100% usage while the GPU sits around 30–40%, so I'm wondering whether the processor is the main bottleneck and what upgrade would pair well with the graphics card.

The 5600 is the better value if you’re trying to keep the cost low. The 5700X3D is faster for gaming, but it may not be worth paying a premium unless you play CPU-heavy games or want to keep the current platform for several more years. Either option is a much better fit than the 2600.
The Ryzen 5 2600 is probably holding you back, especially since your CPU is hitting 100% while the GPU has plenty of headroom. A Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X is a strong, inexpensive upgrade for AM4 and should pair well with the 3070 Ti. Just check your motherboard’s CPU support list and update the BIOS first if necessary.
If you want the best gaming upgrade without replacing your motherboard and RAM, look for a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. Its extra cache can make a noticeable difference in CPU-limited games, and it should let the 3070 Ti stretch its legs for quite a while longer. You’ll likely want a decent tower cooler rather than the basic stock cooler.

That makes sense. Since the CPU is clearly maxing out, I’ll check my motherboard model and BIOS support before choosing between the 5600 and 5700X3D.
