I'm interested in starting to stream iRacing but I'm not sure what hardware or software I actually need. My current system has a Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB of DDR4 memory, an RTX 2070 Super, and a 650W power supply. I'm working with a tight budget, so I'd like to start with the essentials and upgrade gradually. Should I prioritize an 8-core or 12-core processor, and do I need a capture card or any specific streaming software?

If you do upgrade, a Ryzen 7 5700X or 5800X would be a sensible step up from the 2600. An 8-core chip should be plenty for gaming and streaming, so you probably don’t need to spend extra on a 12-core processor. Adding another 16GB of matching RAM could also help, especially if you multitask while streaming. Check that your motherboard BIOS supports the CPU, and make sure your cooler and power supply are adequate.
You may not need a CPU upgrade immediately. The RTX 2070 Super has NVENC hardware encoding, which works well with OBS and can handle streaming without putting much extra load on the CPU. Start with OBS, use NVENC, and see how your game and stream perform before buying anything.
That makes sense. I’ll try streaming with my current setup first and see whether I actually run into performance problems.
For a normal single-PC iRacing setup, you almost certainly don’t need a capture card. Use OBS with the GPU’s NVENC encoder, then upgrade only if you stay committed and discover a specific limitation. A capture card is mainly useful for consoles, a second computer, or more specialized setups. Starting with your current hardware and improving the stream gradually is the best approach on a limited budget.

Would a regular 5700X or 5800X be good enough, or is it worth waiting and saving for an X3D model?
