I currently have a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3060 EAGLE OC LHR 12GB GDDR6 and want to make a significant upgrade. There are a lot of options available, so I'm trying to figure out which graphics card offers the best performance and value for a budget of around $900–$1,000. I'm mainly interested in an upgrade that will feel substantial rather than just a small improvement.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT looks like one of the strongest choices in this price range, especially for 1440p gaming. It should be a major step up from your RTX 3060, and the value is generally better than comparable Nvidia cards. A standard RX 9070 is also worth considering if it’s priced noticeably lower. Nvidia’s RTX 5070 is an option, but it may not offer as much performance for the money. An RTX 5080 would likely exceed your budget.
If you want to use most of the budget, the RX 9070 XT is probably the easiest recommendation. It provides a substantial upgrade over the RTX 3060 without stepping too far beyond the price limit. You could also check the used market for an RX 7900 XTX or RTX 5070 Ti, since either can sometimes be found around $800 depending on local prices and condition.
A used RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080 could be worth looking at, but make sure the price is realistic. In many places, used 5070 Ti cards still sell for roughly $1,000–$1,200, so they may not actually fit the budget. Older cards like the RTX 3080 are available, but they probably aren’t a compelling upgrade unless you find one very cheaply.
I’d be cautious about paying much for a used RTX 3080. It’s faster than the 3060, but newer cards offer better efficiency, features, and usually a more worthwhile long-term upgrade.
