What would happen if I deleted everything and started over?

I'm trying to free up space on my Windows computer, but I never organized or labeled my files, so I don't know what's safe to remove. If I uninstall or delete everything and rebuild the system from scratch, what would happen, and what's the safest way to do it?

Since you’re using Windows, first copy your documents, photos, saved projects, and browser data to at least one external drive—two backups would be even better. After verifying the backups open correctly, you can use Windows’ Reset this PC feature. Avoid deleting folders such as Windows, Program Files, or user profile folders manually, because that can make the system unusable.

Don’t start deleting files at random. A clean Windows reinstall can remove your apps and system clutter, but it may also erase personal documents, photos, and other data depending on the option you choose. Back up anything important first, then use Windows recovery settings to reset the PC. The option to remove everything gives you the cleanest start, while the option to keep personal files preserves your user folders but still removes installed programs.

How do I start the reset safely?

Before making major changes, have someone familiar with computers look through the drive with you. They can help identify important files, installed programs, and anything that should be backed up instead of deleted. Reinstalling Windows is much safer than manually removing unknown system files.
