I really like the compact design of Spotify Car Thing and want something similar for my desk, but at a lower price and with Apple Music support. It needs to work wirelessly over Bluetooth rather than requiring a USB connection. Are there any existing devices that fit this, or would I need to build one myself?

A small secondary monitor or a Stream Deck could show Apple Music controls and currently playing information, but those options generally connect to the computer by USB and wouldn’t meet the Bluetooth requirement.
An Amazon Echo Show 5 can connect with music services including Spotify and Apple Music, so it may be a simple desk-friendly alternative. It’s more of a smart display than a dedicated music controller, though, and its Bluetooth behavior may not match what you want.
One possible DIY route is a Raspberry Pi-based controller. Another option would be buying a used Car Thing and installing DeskThing, although compatibility with Apple Music and wireless control would need to be verified before buying anything.
