I'm buying my first TV and would love some recommendations. My budget is around $200–$250, and I'm looking for something between 43 and 45 inches with smart features and the ability to stream from my Apple devices. I don't need anything high-end—I've mostly watched shows on my MacBook for the last 15 years, so almost any decent TV would be an upgrade. Is 4K worth prioritizing at this price, or should I focus on getting a reliable basic display and a separate streaming device?

At this size and price, you probably won’t notice much difference between 1080p and 4K unless you sit fairly close. Streaming compression can also reduce the benefit of extra resolution. I’d prioritize a decent panel, good reviews, and Apple AirPlay support over chasing 4K.
You may want to avoid choosing a TV mainly for its built-in smart software. A basic TV paired with a Roku or another external streaming device can last longer, since you can replace the stick when its software becomes outdated. Make sure the device supports AirPlay 2 if you want to stream from Apple products.
There are usually several 43-inch Roku-equipped TVs around the $200 mark, including some QLED models, though 4K versions may push you toward the top of your budget. A built-in smart TV can still be perfectly fine, especially if it also supports external devices. If possible, compare screens in person, then check online reviews for brightness, picture quality, and reliability before buying.
