What’s a reliable, affordable 32GB DDR5 RAM kit for a $1,500 gaming PC?

My dad promised that we could build a gaming PC together if I can keep the parts reasonably priced. Our current build comes to about $1,500 before tax, but closer to $1,600 after tax. I'm looking for 32GB of DDR5 RAM from a trustworthy brand without pushing the total even higher. Are there any good budget options, or should I change the build to save money elsewhere?

It may help to choose the RAM first and build the rest of the parts around the remaining budget. Compare the total cost of the motherboard, CPU, power supply, and graphics card before settling on the case. You could also temporarily choose a cheaper case or delay a graphics card upgrade, since those choices usually affect the budget much more than a small difference between reputable RAM kits.

Before cutting the memory, double-check whether every other part is necessary at its current price. Your build is about $1,138 before tax without RAM, so there may be room to adjust another component instead. I’d prioritize a reputable 2x16GB DDR5 kit over an unknown ultra-cheap brand, and avoid relying on used or unverified memory unless the seller has a good return policy.

If the budget is tight, 16GB can still get you started for gaming, especially if you choose a motherboard with four memory slots. You could add more later when prices improve. Just remember that buying a single 16GB stick may reduce performance compared with using two sticks, and mixing separately purchased kits can sometimes cause compatibility or stability issues.

For DDR5, it’s generally better to use two sticks rather than four, since four modules can be harder to run at higher speeds. If you can afford it, a matched 2x16GB kit is the cleanest option. If not, a 2x8GB kit now and replacing it later is safer than mixing random modules, though you’ll need to check whether the savings are worth it.
