I'm looking for an affordable NVMe SSD—ideally around $60 or less—for an older HP Omen laptop. It currently boots from a hard drive, and the laptop is mainly used for smaller games such as Peak, Meccha Chameleon, and Heartopia. I only need enough space for the operating system and a few games; the existing 1TB hard drive can continue storing larger files and anything unrelated to the OS. I'm mainly looking for a trustworthy drive from a reputable brand rather than the cheapest possible option. The laptop is confirmed to support NVMe drives.

At that price, a new drive from a well-known manufacturer will probably be around 256GB, though sales may occasionally get you 500GB. Avoid unfamiliar brands with inconsistent reviews if this will be your boot drive. A basic drive from a reputable manufacturer should be perfectly adequate for the OS and light gaming.
Before buying, it’s worth checking the exact laptop model and confirming the supported NVMe size and form factor. Since you’ve already used a Samsung NVMe drive in this laptop, compatibility should be fine in your case. If you ever decide not to use NVMe, a 2.5-inch SATA SSD would also be a straightforward upgrade, since it can replace the existing hard drive and provide a major improvement over a mechanical disk.
I’ve already confirmed that NVMe works because I previously used a Samsung 900-series drive in the laptop. I moved that drive into my desktop, so now I’m looking for an inexpensive replacement.
256GB is probably enough since I don’t need much extra space. I’ll keep the 1TB hard drive for files and anything that doesn’t need to be on the SSD.
