What’s a safe way to mount a 3.5-inch HDD in a Lenovo ThinkCentre 920t without the original caddy?

I'm installing a WD 10TB 3.5-inch hard drive in a Lenovo ThinkCentre 920t, but the used system didn't include the factory HDD bracket or sled. The replacement Lenovo 01EF620 bracket appears to cost around $50, which seems excessive for a simple mounting piece. Since the drive will run continuously in a home lab, I want it secured properly and protected from excessive vibration for several years. Would nylon ties, zip ties, Velcro, double-sided tape, or a 3D-printed replacement be reliable enough, or is there a better low-cost mounting method?

Zip ties can work as a temporary solution, but I wouldn’t rely on them alone for a multi-year installation. They can loosen or transmit vibration, and the drive may shift if the computer is moved. Velcro or double-sided tape is also better as supplemental support than as the primary mount, especially because adhesive can soften over time.

A 3D-printed replacement is probably the best inexpensive option if you can find or design an accurate model. Use a reasonably heat-resistant material and make sure the drive is supported at its mounting points rather than hanging from cables. Leave airflow around the drive and check that the print doesn’t flex or allow the disk to vibrate against the case.

Plastic itself shouldn’t be a ventilation problem as long as the bracket doesn’t cover the drive or block the case airflow. The bigger concerns are strength, heat resistance, and vibration.

If you can’t print a bracket, use a small metal drive cage or universal 3.5-inch mounting adapter and attach it to an existing solid point in the chassis. That’s preferable for a 24/7 system because it keeps the drive firmly supported and reduces vibration. Avoid letting the drive rest directly on the case or sit loose on the bottom.
