I'm in the United States and mainly use my PC for gaming. I have an i9-12900K and a budget of under $200 for a replacement cooler. My current cooler seems to be a poor fit: recently, the CPU has been reaching around 100°C even at roughly 54% utilization, with unusually high idle temperatures. The problem became noticeable after installing a hotter Radeon 9070 XT, although the old GPU may simply have been limiting the system differently. I'd prefer a 240mm AIO and have been considering the Cooler Master Atmos 240 and Lian Li Galahad II Trinity, but I'm also open to air cooling, including options like the Noctua NH-D15. What would you recommend, and should I be looking at a larger radiator or checking the CPU mounting first?

The Cooler Master Atmos 240 is a solid choice and should work well for gaming, though I wouldn’t expect it to outperform every good air cooler. Arctic’s Liquid Freezer III 240 is another strong option. If you can fit the 360mm version within your case and budget, I’d choose that for the 12900K instead.
Undervolting or applying sensible power limits is also worth trying. It costs nothing and can substantially reduce heat and power consumption with little impact on gaming performance. Still, temperatures near 100°C at moderate utilization suggest you should inspect the cooler mounting and contact before relying only on undervolting.
A 240mm AIO will generally perform similarly to other 240mm models because the radiator size is the main limitation. The Arctic Liquid Freezer line is worth considering because its radiator is thicker than many competitors. If your case supports a 280mm or 360mm radiator, that would be a better match for a 12900K, especially under sustained loads.
I’d seriously consider a good dual-tower air cooler instead. The Thermalright Phantom Spirit or Peerless Assassin can perform around the level of many 240mm AIOs while costing less and avoiding pump failure. They’re also generally more reliable than liquid cooling. A 240mm AIO makes more sense if you mainly want the appearance or don’t have room for a large air cooler.
Before buying anything, check the current cooler and installation. Make sure the pump is running, the mounting pressure is even, the protective film was removed, and the thermal paste is applied properly. LGA1700 CPUs can also suffer from uneven contact caused by socket flex; an inexpensive contact frame may improve temperatures. Running with the side panel removed can help determine whether case airflow is part of the problem.
