I have a large amount of personal media and other sensitive files that I'd rather keep separate from my phone's default private or secure folder. I'm considering options such as encrypted storage, a laptop, cloud services, an external SSD, a NAS, or a dedicated vault. The ideal solution would provide strong privacy, prevent accidental access, remain reasonably convenient, and protect the files if my phone or computer is lost or damaged. What storage setup would you recommend?

A NAS can work well if you want access from multiple devices. Store the files in an encrypted volume, use separate user accounts, enable two-factor authentication, and avoid exposing the NAS directly to the internet. Remote access is safer through a VPN, and you should still keep an offline backup in case of hardware failure, ransomware, or accidental deletion.
An encrypted external SSD or USB drive is a simple option. Keep it disconnected when you aren’t using it and protect it with full-disk encryption and a strong password. For important files, maintain a second encrypted backup somewhere else, since one drive can fail or be lost.
A microSD card is inexpensive and easy to hide, but it isn’t a complete solution. It can be lost, damaged, or fail without warning, and it doesn’t provide convenient access across devices. If you use one, encrypt it and keep another encrypted copy elsewhere.
The NAS should be treated as convenient primary storage, not as the only copy. A disconnected backup is still important even if the NAS has mirrored drives.
