I'm using Windows 11 with a 118 GB Local Disk and two additional 1.81 TB hard drives. I've changed my download locations to the larger drives, removed everything from the Recycle Bin, run Disk Cleanup, and even tried changing drive letters and paths, but the system drive is still nearly full. Windows says apps are using around 65 GB, yet I only have about three applications installed there that add up to roughly 17 GB. What's the best way to find out what is actually taking up the remaining space, and should I replace the system drive with a larger SSD?

The storage categories in Windows Settings can be pretty inaccurate, especially the Apps section. Use a disk analyzer such as WizTree, TreeSize, or WinDirStat. These tools scan the drive and show exactly which folders and files are consuming the space. Don’t delete anything unless you know what it is, but this should reveal where the missing storage is going.
Moving downloads and personal files helps, but Windows itself still needs free space for updates and temporary or paging files. Also check whether large games, application data, restore points, or old update files are stored on the system drive. Avoid changing partitions or deleting system folders until you have a backup and know exactly what they contain.
You can also right-click the main folders on the system drive, choose Properties, and compare their sizes. Check folders such as Users, Windows, Program Files, and ProgramData. A graphical tool will usually be faster, but folder properties can help confirm the result.
An 118 GB system drive is very cramped for Windows 11. The operating system, updates, temporary files, restore data, paging files, and hibernation can take a significant portion of it before you install much software. If the computer supports it, upgrading to a 512 GB SSD would give you much more breathing room. Back up your files first, and either clone the current drive or have someone experienced replace it.
