I'm trying to switch to Linux for the first time and understand that Ventoy can make a bootable USB drive. Where is the official download, and do I install Ventoy directly onto the USB drive before copying the Linux ISO to it?

Before installing, double-check the drive selection because choosing the wrong disk can wipe it. It’s also a good idea to verify the Linux ISO’s checksum when the distribution provides one. The Ventoy website includes instructions for the installation process.

The official download is at https://www.ventoy.net/en/download.html. Download the version for your operating system, run the Ventoy installer, and select the correct USB drive. Installing Ventoy will normally erase that drive, so back up anything important first. Afterward, you can copy one or more Linux ISO files onto the USB like regular files and choose one from Ventoy’s boot menu.

Yes, Ventoy gets installed to the USB itself, but you don’t install the Linux ISO with the installer. The usual process is: install Ventoy to the USB, safely reconnect it if needed, then drag the downloaded ISO file onto the Ventoy partition. Boot from the USB and select the ISO.
