I've never built a PC before, but I'm planning a high-end upgrade and want to buy an RTX 5080. The prices I'm seeing on Amazon and Nvidia's website are much higher than the amount I was told to expect. For someone living in Italy, which retailers or component stores are worth checking? I specifically need Nvidia features, so an AMD card isn't an option for me.

The RTX 5080 has never been especially strong value: it costs more than an RTX 5070 Ti while offering only a modest performance increase and the same VRAM capacity. AMD cards can be much cheaper, but if you need Nvidia-specific features or CUDA, sticking with Nvidia makes sense.
The price you were quoted may have been an MSRP estimate rather than what retailers are actually charging. Supply is limited, partly because of demand from AI workloads, so paying around €1,400–€1,500 in Italy is unfortunately fairly typical at the moment. It may also be worth checking the RTX 5070 Ti if your workload doesn’t require the 5080’s extra performance.
Amazon may actually be one of the cheaper options right now, with some MSI RTX 5080 Ventus models selling for roughly €1,400. It’s worth comparing the final price and delivery times across several retailers before buying.
In Italy, you could check Nexths, Drako, and AK Informatica, but don’t expect to find an RTX 5080 at its official MSRP. Current pricing is generally around €1,400–€1,500, and stock shortages are keeping prices high.
I specifically need Nvidia features, so switching to an AMD card isn’t really an option for this build.
