I'm deciding between two complete gaming PCs. The first costs $2,172 and includes an RX 9070, Core i7-14700K, 64GB of DDR4-3200 CL18, a 1TB NVMe drive, a 750W power supply, an AIO cooler, case fans, and Windows 11. The second costs $2,341 and includes an RX 9070 XT, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB of DDR5-6400 CL32, a 1TB NVMe drive, an 850W power supply, an AIO cooler, case fans, and Windows 11. Prices are in USD.
I want to play and host games such as Icarus, Scrap Mechanic, modded Minecraft Java and Bedrock, and similar titles at high or maximum settings on a 1440p 320Hz monitor. I know 64GB of RAM is probably unnecessary, but I'm specifically comparing these two builds and can't configure one with 48GB. I'm also not concerned about general future-proofing; I mainly want to know which option offers better value and performance. I'm currently coming from a laptop with an RTX 3050 6GB and 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory. I'm saving for the PC, so I may not buy it for another one or two years.

The DDR4 system looks overpriced for what it includes. If you’re spending this much, the second build makes more sense because more of the budget goes toward gaming performance instead of extra RAM you may not use. However, both CPU and GPU prices will probably be very different in one or two years, so compare current parts again when you’re ready to buy.
I’d avoid choosing the Intel build solely for the 64GB capacity. Most gamers don’t need that much memory, while the faster graphics card and gaming-focused AMD CPU will make a more noticeable difference. Also, make sure the power supplies and cooling products are reputable rather than judging only by wattage or included fan count.
The 9070 XT and 7800X3D combination is the better gaming choice. I wouldn’t expect a locked 320 FPS in heavily modded Minecraft, especially with shaders, large automation builds, or poorly optimized modpacks. Performance in those situations depends heavily on the specific mods and world, but the X3D processor is still the stronger option for high-refresh gaming.
Between these exact options, I’d choose the RX 9070 XT and Ryzen 7 7800X3D build. The XT is roughly 10–15% faster, the 7800X3D is excellent for gaming, and you get DDR5 plus a larger power supply for only about $169 more. The 32GB memory kit should be enough for nearly all games, including most modded setups.
That’s what I was trying to figure out—I’m mainly interested in which build gives better performance for the extra money, not whether 64GB is technically possible or useful.
