Global market-share reports are easy to find, but they don't necessarily show where Linux is most popular geographically. Are there reliable surveys or statistics that compare daily Linux desktop usage by country?

India is a reasonable guess for both total users and possibly percentage, given its large population and government or institutional use of Linux-related software. Still, I haven’t seen reliable evidence proving it ranks first in primary desktop usage.
There probably isn’t a definitive answer. Web-traffic statistics can provide a rough estimate by showing the operating system used to access websites, but they measure visits rather than unique people. They can also be affected by bots, servers, privacy tools, and differences in desktop-versus-mobile usage. To compare countries fairly, you’d need to combine OS percentages with the number of desktop users in each country.
