I'm helping a friend choose parts for a gaming PC with a budget of around $1,800, targeting 1440p performance. The graphics card will be an XFX Radeon 9070 16GB, but I'm unsure which CPU platform offers the better value. One option is a $400 bundle with a Ryzen 5 7500X3D, an ASRock 850M-C motherboard, and a single 16GB G.Skill Flare DDR5-6000 CL36 stick. The price is appealing, but running one memory stick seems like a significant drawback. Another bundle costs $550 and includes an Intel Core Ultra 5 250K, ASUS Z890 AYW motherboard, and 32GB of Crucial DDR5-6400 CL32 memory in a 2x16GB kit. Would either of these be the better choice for a 1440p gaming build, or is there another bundle worth considering?

The Ryzen bundle is the better direction if you want a platform with more CPU upgrade potential, although I’d prefer the 7600X3D bundle if it comes with a stronger motherboard. The 7500X3D should still perform very well for 1440p gaming, and you could temporarily use the single 16GB stick while saving for a matching module. If you don’t plan to upgrade the CPU later, the Intel bundle is also a reasonable choice because it already includes a proper 32GB dual-channel kit.
For this kind of gaming build, I’d stick with AM5 and an X3D processor. A 7500X3D paired with the 9070 should handle 1440p very comfortably, but make sure to budget for two RAM sticks. A single 16GB module will run in single-channel mode, which can reduce performance and isn’t ideal for a new build. If the extra memory pushes the bundle too close to the price of a higher-tier X3D option, compare those bundles directly instead.
The 7500X3D is already a strong gaming CPU and should pair nicely with the 9070 at 1440p. The Intel bundle gives you 32GB immediately and is also a valid choice, but I’d personally prioritize the AM5 gaming platform unless the motherboard is unusually weak or you don’t care about future upgrades. It may also be worth checking whether a less expensive 32GB DDR5 bundle is available, since paying a large premium for an additional matching 16GB stick changes the value calculation.
Buying a matching 16GB stick later can be more trouble and expense than it’s worth. Once the total approaches the price of a 7800X3D bundle, stepping up to that bundle may make more sense.
