I'm comparing several GPUs for my current system. I mainly play at 1080p right now, but I'd like enough performance for a future upgrade to 1440p. Prices are in CAD and unfortunately quite high: the Radeon 9060 XT 16GB is about $700, the 9070 GRE 12GB is around $700–750, the 9070 16GB costs roughly $850–900, and the 9070 XT is about $950–1,000 or more. I'm leaning toward the 9070 GRE, but I'm also open to Nvidia options in a similar price range. Choosing the 9070 XT would require upgrading my power supply as well. Which card makes the most sense for the money?

The 9070 GRE or 9070 look like the strongest choices here. Nvidia is difficult to justify at these prices unless you specifically need CUDA or Nvidia-exclusive software for work. For gaming, the comparable Radeon cards generally offer better value.
If you can find the 9070 around $850, that seems like the best deal of the options listed. It should provide a noticeable step up from the 9060 XT and leave you with more headroom for 1440p without the extra power-supply cost of the 9070 XT.
Between the 9060 XT and 9070 GRE, the 9070 GRE has a wider memory bus and should deliver considerably better gaming performance. The 9070 improves on that again, so if you can stretch your budget by roughly $100–150, the regular 9070 may be worth considering. The GRE is still the better value if you want to stay near $700.
