Why are my Apple devices limited to 50–60 Mbps after updating to OS 26.7 or 27?

My internet connection delivers around 250 Mbps to the router, and my Windows laptop still reaches the full speed. However, after updating several household devices to OS 27, plus one iPhone to OS 26.7, my MacBook Air M2, iPhone Air, iPhone 15, iPad mini 7th generation, and iPad Air 4th generation only reach about 50–60 Mbps. I tested consistently with Speedtest in Safari and the app on one iPhone. I've forgotten and rejoined the Wi-Fi network on each device, and iCloud Private Relay is disabled. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a reliable fix?

I haven’t seen a general slowdown on my devices. It may be worth checking whether the problem is specific to the router configuration rather than the operating system. Restart the affected devices, check for background updates, and test different DNS settings as additional troubleshooting steps.

The router configuration turned out to be the cause. Changing the 5 GHz network to WPA2/WPA3 hybrid fixed the speed issue across the affected devices.

The fix was changing the Eero 6’s 5 GHz security mode from WPA3-only to WPA2/WPA3 hybrid mode. The router was fully updated, but the new OS versions apparently had trouble with WPA3-only on that setup. After switching it to hybrid mode, the Apple devices returned to normal speeds, even though they still connected using WPA3.

Try disabling Connectivity Assist in the Wi-Fi settings. That resolved a similar slowdown for me after updating to OS 27.

That setting was already disabled in my case. I eventually found that the issue was related to WPA3 compatibility between the new OS versions and my Eero 6.
