I'm trying to sign in to iMessage on a fourth-generation iPod touch running iOS 6.1.6. My Apple account was previously blocked for spam, which prevented me from using my iMessage email on my devices, but Apple has since fixed the account issue. Now the iPod says my email address or password is incorrect whenever I try to sign in, even though the credentials are correct. I've read that newer sign-ins may require a two-factor authentication code from a trusted iPhone, but no code or prompt appears. iMessage still works on my other devices. Is there any way to use it on this iPod touch again?

The problem is probably the iPod touch’s age rather than your password. Current iMessage support requires a much newer iOS version, and older versions may also have trouble completing modern Apple ID authentication. On very old systems, you sometimes have to request a verification code and enter it directly after the password, such as password123456, but that still may not work with iOS 6.1.6. The device is effectively too old for the current sign-in system.
Unfortunately, there may not be a fix for this particular iPod. Restoring the account removed the block, but it didn’t make the old operating system compatible with Apple’s current authentication and iMessage servers. If the device cannot update to a supported iOS release, iMessage may no longer be available on it.

I used to send messages on this iPod without any trouble, but after my Apple ID was blocked, I haven’t been able to sign back in even though the account is working on my other devices.
