Why Did My RX 9070 XT Benchmark FPS Drop from 250 to 170?

I installed an RX 9070 XT today and noticed that my average benchmark FPS is around 170, even though I previously saw about 250 FPS with the same settings. I haven't intentionally changed anything. My CPU is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Could this indicate a faulty graphics card, or is there something wrong with how I'm comparing the results?

The 9800X3D should be more than capable in many games, but the benchmark and settings still matter. Check that the monitor cable is connected to the graphics card, the correct GPU is selected, the latest driver is installed cleanly, and no frame limit, power-saving mode, or unusual Radeon feature is enabled.

Clarify whether both numbers were recorded today with the new card, or whether 250 FPS was measured before replacing the GPU. If the 170 FPS figure is the average from a benchmark, repeat it several times and monitor GPU usage, clock speeds, temperatures, power draw, and CPU usage. Those readings can show whether the card is being limited by settings, thermals, drivers, or another component.

It’s difficult to diagnose without knowing the game or benchmark, the rest of the system, driver version, resolution, and exactly how both results were measured. A drop to 170 FPS doesn’t automatically suggest faulty hardware, especially if the benchmark runs consistently. First, make sure you’re comparing the same test, scene, resolution, graphics settings, and upscaling settings.
